Position Overview
Are you a technically savvy engineer with a passion for supporting sales and delivering excellent customer service? We are seeking a dynamic Applications Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in bridging the gap between our engineering capabilities and our sales efforts. As an Applications Engineer, you will provide expert engineering advice and support to our sales team in the preparation of commercial offers, developing Caterpillar Engine packages and third‑party components ensuring designs are fit for purpose and cost effective, and ensuring that our customers\’ technical needs are thoroughly understood and addressed.

Job Description
- Accompany sales representatives at customer meetings and site visits to ensure comprehensive understanding and fulfilment of technical requirements.
- Carry out Full Caterpillar installation Audit requirement and fully document.
- Provide advice on the cost and feasibility of proposed solutions.
- Supply technical knowledge and designs through precise calculations and detailed drawings.
- Engage directly with customers to address engineering and technical inquiries.
- Advise management and depot managers on project-specific purchases and specialized cross‑rent options to meet customer needs effectively.
- Provide engineering advice and support to develop and enhance product applications so that the most suitable commercially viable (new and existing) technologies are considered within our target industries.
- Prepare and hand over detailed project documentation and specifications to the Depot Team to ensure that execution meets customers’ expectations.
- Provide Project Management support to the Depot Manager when required to ensure the operational delivery of specified projects.
- Ensure that specified projects are appropriately evaluated with regard to technical performance.
- Ensure that all work is properly administered in accordance with Finning Power Rental policies and procedures.

Specific Skills
- Industry knowledge from at least one of the following sectors: oil and gas, electric power, industrial, marine, or rental.
- Mechanical and electrical engineering skills.
- Full working knowledge of all engine systems and their integration into other equipment.
- Competent in IT with CAD knowledge and a basic understanding of CAN networks.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the business.
- Project management skills to oversee projects from end to end.
- Strong advisory skills regarding technical‑related issues and problem‑solving.
- Conceptual and creative problem‑solver with strong analytical skills.
- Works on own initiative and well as part of a team.
- Commercially aware of cost implications and revenue‑generating opportunities.
- Can carry out required Engine Audit Evaluations, fully interpret results, and problem‑solve issues to successful conclusions.
Education & Experience
- Degree in Engineering or Apprenticeship to HND level or significant industry experience.
- Working knowledge of engines and engine installations.
- Experience in design, development and validation of components.
- Experience in presenting solutions in customer‑facing meetings.
- Ability to undertake detailed on‑site test work.
