We are looking for an experienced Paint Sprayer / Shotblaster to join our workshop team, working with Caterpillar plant machinery and heavy equipment components. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, shotblasting, painting, and finishing a wide range of plant machinery to a high industry standard.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation
- Shotblast components and machinery to remove rust, old coatings, and surface contaminants.
- Clean, degrease, and prepare surfaces prior to painting.
- Mask and protect areas not to be painted.
- Inspect surfaces for defects and ensure surfaces meet required standards before coating.
- Mix and apply primers, top coats, and specialist coatings using spray equipment.
- Ensure all coatings meet manufacturer specifications and quality requirements.
- Mix and handle paint and thinners safely and according to manufacturer's data sheets (MSDS).
- Perform routine maintenance and care of spray painting equipment.
- Set up, operate, and maintain spray guns, blast equipment, spray booths and PPE.
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance on paint and blasting equipment.
- Adhere strictly to health & safety procedures, including safe handling of chemicals and coatings in line with environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organised working area.
- Inspect finished components to ensure they meet quality and durability standards.
- Record paint usage, job completion notes, and any defects or rework.
- Work closely with supervisors to prioritise workload and meet production deadlines.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience as a Paint Sprayer, Shotblaster, or similar role (plant or heavy equipment experience preferred).
- Ability to work with 2-pack paints, primers, and industrial coatings.
- Confident in using spray guns, blast cabinets, and associated tools.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques and paint processes.
- Ability to read job cards, follow specifications, and work to detailed requirements.
- Good understanding of workplace safety.
Education and Experience:
- ICATS trained (desirable).
- Counterbalance Forklift truck licence is an advantage.
- NPORS licence or equivalent (desirable).
- Appointed persons certificate in the management of lifting operations (desirable).
As a Finning Engineer you will receive:
- Salary - £32,550 - £33,405.
