Part of the Finning Power Rental team, working on a wide range of electric power projects across the UK and Ireland. Responsible for setting up rental solutions and ensuring rental equipment, including generators, load‑banks, transformers, fuel tanks, and ancillaries are serviceable to support rental customers.

Field‑based role requirements

  • All drivers must have a full driving licence for 2 years (eligibility subject to a full DVLA licence check)

Major Job Functions

  • Inspect, service and maintain rental equipment (generators, transformers, fuel tanks, load‑banks, cables, panels) in line with maintenance schedules (5%)
  • Complete ready‑to‑rent tasks, recording inspections and documenting data within CAT inspection application (5%)
  • Complete rental returns process, recording inspections and documenting data within CAT inspection application (5%)
  • Set up rental equipment according to customer requirements or project drawings from the Application Engineering team (15%)
  • Troubleshoot technical problems encountered on equipment and resolve them quickly, safely and efficiently (15%)
  • Provide support for logistics of inbound and outbound equipment when required (5%)
  • Lead site installation, commissioning and decommissioning of rental solutions, including synchronisation of several generators (20%)
  • Troubleshoot complex technical problems and resolve them quickly, safely and efficiently (10%)
  • Perform more in‑depth repairs on rental equipment (15%)
  • Ensure full adherence to all Health & Safety policies, including a positive approach to ‘Logincident’ and pre‑task risk assessments (5%)

Specific Skills

  • Completion and demonstrated application of Finning E&T service and maintenance engineering up to advanced level of training
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills – ability to communicate complex technical issues in an easy‑to‑understand manner
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, self‑directed, entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to direct and mentor other Finning Power Rental engineering team members and subcontractors
  • Resourceful and able to work independently
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances

Knowledge

  • Strong working experience of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
  • Good knowledge of product range and product control across the rental equipment portfolio
  • Good working knowledge of load‑bank process, including setup and testing processes

Accountability

  • Work safely and in accordance with QHSSE policies and procedures to prevent accidents, and report near misses, incidents and accidents immediately without delay
  • Adhere to the Company’s Electrical Safety Policy

Education & Experience

  • Apprenticeship trained, NVQ Level 3 (Mechanical or Electronic) or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety
  • Driver’s licence
  • Proven track record and technical hands‑on field experience in maintenance, diagnostic, investigation of mechanical / electrical faults and problems
  • 5 years’ plus experience in the rental energy sector or a similar role
  • Further mechanical and/or electronic engineering qualifications
  • Safe Pass (ROI) or CSCS (UK) required
  • Offshore certifications (where required)
  • Has achieved and demonstrated a competent skill level on all basic and part of the advanced skills for Level 1 Engineer per the company’s training and skills matrix
