Job Description
We offer a 4-year Apprenticeship as an Engineering Technician where you will be supported to work alongside our Workshop Engineers to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and rebuilds on Caterpillar equipment. You will attend training blocks at Finningβs Training Academy in Cannock throughout your apprenticeship to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours for your apprenticeship standard. These blocks can be 1, 2, 4 or 6 weeks long. You will then apply those new knowledge and skills in your branch workplace. (All hotel/travel costs are covered by Finning UK & Ireland). Apprenticeship duration can be reduced for applicants with recognised prior learning in the industry sector. This will be determined during the initial assessment process.
What you can expect
During the first two years of the apprenticeship, you will develop skills in fundamentals, maintenance, and repair. The final two years will allow you to develop advanced diagnostic skills and repair techniques to include but not limited to:
- Undertake, overhaul, repair, or refurbishment work on Caterpillar equipment
- Carry out standard diagnostic tests on Caterpillar components
- Carry out planned maintenance and general repairs
- Complete commercial assessments and field inspections
- Check and record all parts and materials required for preparation work

Education & Qualifications
England, Wales & NI applicants β GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths grades A-C or the numbered equivalent (9-4). ROI applicants β Hold qualifications in both English and Maths at Irish Leaving Certificate graded Ordinary 1 - 4 or graded higher 1 β 7. Scotland applicants β hold qualifications in both English and Maths at National (N5) Grade 5 or above.
