Job Overview

Our welcoming and supportive practice is looking for a salaried GP to join us on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. The role involves up to six sessions and participation in the weekday on‑call rota. You will work within a collaborative team that values excellent end‑of‑life care, advance care planning and supports continuous professional development.

Main Duties

In general the post‑holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Particular emphasis is placed on women’s health and menopause care, including HRT, contraception (coils, implants and injections), removals and insertions.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Make yourself available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the health‑care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease‑management protocols, develop care plans.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice, local area team or ICB prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and correctly coded consultation notes to practice standards and guidelines.
  • Work alongside clinical and administrative colleagues to ensure the highest standard of care for all practice patients, including covering for absent colleagues.
