About the Opportunity
We're partnering with a well-established manufacturing organization to find a driven and experienced Safety, Health & Environment (HSE) Manager to join their leadership team. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a safety professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to make a real difference and not just check boxes.
The Role
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you'll take the lead on all Safety, Health, and Environmental programs Canada and US facility. You'll sit at the corporate management level, which means your work will be seen, valued, and felt across the entire organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead SHE compliance across Canadian operations and provide program support to a U.S. location
- Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on operational impacts
- Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring, hazard communication, radiation safety, and incident investigations
- Develop and refine safety programs aimed at reducing injury rates
- Serve as management representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual environmental reports to NPRI, MOE, MISA, and other regulatory bodies
- Manage environmental controls under MISA and CEPA; conduct internal audits
- Oversee weekly water sampling and submission for analysis
- Liaise with external agencies including MOL, WSIB, OSHA, and HSE
- Manage all WSIB claims, including leading appeal hearings
- Deliver training and communications on WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest, and Lockout Tagout
- Review incident trend data, identify risk areas, and drive corrective action plans
- Coach and mentor supervisors and staff on SHE best practices
- Provide regular performance reporting and recommendations to senior leadership
- Coordinate facility audits and establish audit standards
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety
- CRSP and/or CHSC designation
- 7 to 10 years of leadership experience in Health and Safety, within a manufacturing environment is a must
- Unionized environment experience is a must
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation; U.S. knowledge is a plus
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and training skills
- Analytical mindset with a proven ability to design and implement effective SHE programs
- WSIB claims management experience is an asset
