Finlay Jude Associates are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Lead to join our Client’s Water & Wastewater Capital Delivery team. In this role, you'll provide technical leadership and governance across a diverse portfolio of clean water and wastewater projects, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, innovative, and deliver value for both our clients and the communities they serve. Working across major capital programmes, you'll act as the technical authority throughout the project lifecycle, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality infrastructure that protects the environment and supports future generations. This role covers projects across the South of England, with travel required to client and project sites.

What You'll Be Doing
As Technical Lead, you'll provide technical direction, assurance, and support across multiple projects, ensuring engineering excellence from concept through to completion. Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the technical authority for clean water, wastewater, and associated infrastructure projects
- Providing technical leadership to engineers, designers, and technical specialists across multidisciplinary teams
- Leading engineering activities through feasibility studies, optioneering, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), detailed design, construction support, and project handover
- Reviewing and approving technical designs, calculations, specifications, and engineering deliverables
- Chairing design reviews, technical assurance meetings, and governance gateways
- Ensuring compliance with client standards, industry regulations, and internal governance requirements
- Championing Safety by Design principles and fulfilling Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM 2015 where applicable
- Identifying, managing, and mitigating technical risks throughout project delivery
- Supporting project planning, programme delivery, budgeting, change control, and commercial decision-making
- Acting as the primary technical interface between clients, design teams, operational teams, and internal stakeholders
- Promoting engineering best practice, standardisation, digital engineering, and continuous improvement across the business
- Mentoring and developing engineers and technical professionals to build future capability
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills. You'll ideally have:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Significant experience delivering engineering solutions within the UK water and wastewater sector
- A thorough understanding of water industry standards, regulations, and technical governance
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of CDM 2015, Health & Safety legislation, NRSWA, construction practices, and process safety
- Excellent communication, presentation, and technical reporting skills
- The ability to influence stakeholders and build strong client relationships
- A proactive, collaborative approach with strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
