FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Principal EICA Engineer to strengthen their commercial team.

Location: Rickmansworth

We are seeking to strengthen our engineering team by appointing a Principal EICA Engineer, based at Maple Lodge, with hybrid working available and an expectation of regular site attendance. Reporting directly to the RDL, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering design services that support the company in minimising risk and maximising profitability across turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will coordinate and manage design activities, producing detailed design documentation and drawings while ensuring full compliance with health and safety requirements, contract specifications, and relevant standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure standard practices and proven solutions are applied wherever possible to maintain efficiency and consistency.
  • Maintain competitiveness through effective design solutions and continuous improvement.
  • Provide accurate estimates and technical feedback to support the Proposals department.
  • Work in accordance with established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department.
  • Assist in the development, review, and continuous improvement of departmental procedures and processes.
  • Write, update, monitor, and maintain efficient procedures to support the smooth operation of the department.
  • Ensure effective coordination of designs across all internal and external disciplines to achieve fully integrated and contract-compliant design solutions.
  • Maintain accurate files and records throughout the lifecycle of each contract.
  • Promote and assure high levels of customer satisfaction, recognising that customers include both end users and internal stakeholders.
  • Work within a customer-focused culture where meeting customer needs underpins the achievement of wider business objectives.
  • Maintain and actively manage a personal development plan.
  • Assist in the supervision, mentoring, and development of staff.
  • Support the provision of a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Minimise waste across all departmental activities.
  • Ensure all designs consider environmental impacts and sustainability principles.
  • Ensure all design activities fully comply with health and safety legislation, standards, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of the principles and processes involved in water and wastewater treatment.
  • Proven experience in managing and supervising design teams delivering discipline-specific elements of water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Full membership of a recognised professional engineering institution.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • Preferable: A relevant engineering degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Minimum requirement: A relevant engineering HND, supported by substantial and appropriate industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to rationalise designs and develop efficient, cost-effective plant layouts.
  • Broad technical knowledge across water treatment disciplines, including mechanical, process, and electrical engineering, together with project management.
  • Flexible, analytical mindset with the ability to assimilate and interpret large volumes of complex technical data.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and persuasively to a range of stakeholders.
  • High level of computer literacy, including the use of engineering and design software.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable: A relevant engineering Master’s degree.
