FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist within the Water and Wastewater Infrastructure sector for an experienced Principal Temporary Works Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering team delivering major capital projects that support resilient water and wastewater infrastructure and environmental protection across Scotland and the wider UK.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the planning, coordination, governance and delivery of temporary works solutions across major capital projects.

Working closely with project, design and construction teams, you will ensure all temporary works are developed, verified and implemented safely, efficiently and in compliance with current industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities of the Principal Temporary Works Engineer: - Lead all temporary works activities throughout the project lifecycle from tender stage through to completion.

  • Evaluate suitable temporary works solutions, assessing constructability, methodology, cost and programme implications.
  • Present temporary works proposals and recommendations to project delivery teams and key stakeholders.
  • Conduct Category 1 and Category 2 temporary works design checks and coordinate Category 3 checks where required.
  • Support the development and implementation of Category 0 Standard Temporary Works Solutions across the Water Division.
  • Ensure full compliance with BS5975, CDM Regulations and all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project, design and construction teams on temporary works requirements and best practice.
  • Oversee temporary works design verification, structural assessments, inspections and certification processes.
  • Review and contribute to project delivery plans, buildability assessments and construction methodologies.
  • Support estimating and tender activities by identifying temporary works requirements and associated risks and costs.
  • Monitor temporary works performance, quality and compliance through audits, inspections and site visits.
  • Ensure all temporary works activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Promote innovation, continuous improvement and consistency in temporary works management across the business.
  • Support the drive towards excellence in Health & Safety and actively promote a positive safety culture.
  • Identify and escalate risks that may impact programme, cost, quality, safety or compliance.

Engineer: - Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline (BEng/BSc or equivalent).

  • Strong experience managing temporary works within the water, wastewater, utilities, infrastructure or construction sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BS5975 and temporary works procedures and governance requirements.
  • Sound understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience carrying out Category 1 and Category 2 temporary works design checks.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage external design verification processes, including Category 3 checks.
  • Experience supporting project teams through design, planning, tender and construction stages.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis principles and temporary works design methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Auto CAD 2D and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Awareness of Process Safety principles and their application within infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to assess risk, cost and constructability implications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical engineering solutions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation and professional development.
  • Active engagement with a recognised professional institution or working towards professional accreditation would be advantageous.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
