The Role

We’re looking for a friendly, caring Lunchtime Assistant to support our team during mealtimes and transitions. This role involves more than supervision – you will help children develop independence, create a calm lunchtime experience and ensure safety and well‑being.

Lunchtime Supervision

  • Support children during meals and encourage good table manners
  • Create a calm, positive and engaging mealtime environment
  • Help children feel comfortable and confident during lunch
  • Support children with allergies safely and correctly
  • Assist with feeding, weaning or bottles where needed
  • Ensure smooth transitions between lunch and the next activity

Childcare Support

  • Deliver safe, meaningful activities while practitioners are on breaks
  • Support children with routines and transitions
  • Encourage independence in handwashing, self‑feeding and dressing
  • Provide comfort and reassurance where needed
  • Share concerns with the team

Health, Hygiene & Safety

  • Support personal care routines before and after meals
  • Keep environments clean, safe and organised
  • Follow all health & safety and allergy procedures
  • Report any accidents, incidents or safeguarding concerns
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Team & Development

  • Work collaboratively with the team
  • Support a positive, energetic environment
  • Attend training and meetings where required
  • Follow and promote nursery values and standards

Ideal Candidate

What Your Day Might Look Like

  • 10:30am – Arrive, settle in, prep for lunchtime
  • 11:30am – Support children during meals
  • 12:00pm – Encourage conversation and independence
  • 12:30pm – Support transitions (toileting, handwashing, rest/play)
  • 1:00pm – Supervise play or quiet activities
  • 2:00pm – Support team handover and tidy up
  • 2:30pm – Head home
