Fingleton White provide multidiscipline engineering services for the energy industry. We provide a full range of design, construction and commissioning services and are active across many sectors including Renewables, Gas Networks, Water, Energy & Utilities, and Asset Management. Greening of gas networks will be fundamental for supporting intermittent renewable energy sources such as Wind and Solar. Our Gas Networks design team are delivering projects in areas such as Biogas from Anaerobic Digestion, Carbon Capture, Hydrogen and Biomethane for grid injection and transport. Expertise in these areas will be key for the future as they provide unique and complex challenges that requires highly technical and specialised engineering solutions.

The Role…. We are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer to join our Gas Transmission/Distribution Networks design team. The successful candidate will join an established team with senior support and will have the opportunity as their career progresses to lead high value and high complexity projects. The Senior Design Engineer will have a client facing role. An example of some of the responsibilities for the role as the business needs require are as follows:
- Design Lead & Project Coordination from conceptual design phase through to project completion in the Gas network sector in areas such as: New build AGI and PRI and Capacity Upgrades, Renewable Gas (Biogas, Biomethane and Hydrogen), Tx/Dx Pipelines and pipeline Diversions, Design of upgrade works across gas distribution networks.
- Innovation and Development projects in the areas of Hydrogen and Biomethane.
- Discipline Design lead within a design team including Mechanical, Civil, E&I, CP and drafting team members.
- Design from first principles and development of Design Drawings and specifications as well as Conceptual, Preliminary and Detailed Design Reports.
- Manager for junior engineers with responsibility for delivering projects, managing performance and developing competency.
- Liaising with local authorities, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Attend and participate in HAZID/ HAZOP and LOPA studies.
- Carry out Principal Designer / CDM role.
The Senior Design Engineer will have the opportunity to progress their career within Fingleton White to be involved in the various business sectors to provide experience across a wide range of projects. The location for this role will be in our Hemel Hempstead office.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Engineering degree (Bachelor Honours Degree or higher) in Mechanical, Process, or a similar discipline relevant to the specification above.
- 7+ years post-graduate and relevant design experience. CEng would be beneficial but not essential.
- Experience in the Gas Industry.
- Working understanding of IGEM standards.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good academic record.
- Full clean driving license and own transport required.
- Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.
