About the Role

Are you an experienced Private Client fee earner ready to take genuine ownership of a varied, high-quality caseload?

Our target clients are high-net-worth individuals, professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs.

We are seeking a technically strong, motivated professional to run and help grow our Estate Planning and associated private client services for this calibre of client, working alongside our Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) and wider team.

This is a genuine opportunity to make the role your own: the client base and the firm-wide referral relationships are already in place; we need the right person to take them forward.

This is a primarily office-based role on our beautiful historic site, by design: building a private client offering depends on close collaboration with our IFAs and on the face-to-face relationships that high-net-worth clients value.

It is ideally suited to someone who thrives in a team environment and enjoys being at the heart of a growing practice.

This is a hands-on, service delivery and growth-focused position.

You will manage your own caseload of clients (with support provided); including complex, high-value estates; delivering high-quality advice on wills, estate planning, trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney and probate, with significant scope for sophisticated inheritance tax planning.

While the role does not require you to be a qualified solicitor, significant practical experience and strong technical knowledge are essential, and you must be confident handling complex matters competently and independently.

You will work closely with IFAs, Directors, the administrative team, and external professionals where required.

While the role requires autonomy and ownership of cases, it is set within a collaborative environment that values communication, teamwork and cross-referrals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting wills, including straightforward and complex structures
  • Advising on estate planning and care fees planning
  • Preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Advising on and administering trusts (where appropriate)
  • Probate and estate administration
  • Inheritance tax planning in collaboration with IFAs
  • Identifying cases requiring specialist legal referral
  • Ensuring compliance with Money Laundering Regulations and internal procedures
  • Managing a full and varied caseload independently
  • Prioritising workload and meeting deadlines
  • Maintaining accurate client records and file notes
  • Using internal systems and case management software effectively

There is scope to take on other areas such as Court of Protection and Deputyship work, both at the outset and as the role develops.

  • Business Development & Growth
  • Develop and retain clients according to agreed strategy
  • Work with IFAs to generate cross-referrals
  • Identify planning opportunities from financial reviews
  • Build long-term client relationships to encourage repeat business
  • Contribute to the growth and visibility of the private client offering

At least two years' experience in will writing and private client work, with a proven ability to manage a caseload independently from instruction through to completion.

Strong working knowledge of

  • Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Inheritance tax principles
  • Understanding of risk management and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to identify when matters require specialist referral
  • Hold, or be working towards, a STEP qualification (or a similar relevant qualification in trusts, estate planning or private client work)
  • Full STEP qualification (support for ongoing professional development will be provided).
  • Experience of Property Trusts, Family Investment Companies, or Court of Protection and Deputyship work.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise conflicting demands
  • High attention to detail
  • Confident and professional client manner
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Administrative support is provided along with mentoring, ongoing training and support from management.

If you are motivated, client-focused and ready to take ownership of a growing private client service, we would love to hear from you.
