Finest Brands is recruiting an experienced Financial Accountant to take possession of the day-to-day financial operations of the business, based out of our Cardiff office.
This is a hands‑on, senior finance role covering accounts production, treasury management, tax compliance, and financial control, working closely with the leadership team to ensure the business has accurate, timely, and well‑governed financial information.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with strong technical grounding and the operational discipline to run a tight month‑end and statutory reporting process, while also being comfortable managing cash, banking relationships, and tax obligations across the business.
The role will also require experience working with stock, inventory controls and related reporting, ensuring inventory movements, valuations and reconciliations are accurately reflected in the financial accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Production & Financial Reporting
- Own the production of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, to a fixed reporting timetable
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments
- Manage the year‑end statutory accounts process and act as primary point of contact for external auditors
- Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with UK GAAP and group accounting policies
- Deliver clear, accurate board and management reporting packs, with commentary on variances and performance
- Treasury & Cash Management
- Manage day‑to‑day cash flow, banking relationships and payment processes across the business
- Prepare and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts
- Oversee foreign currency exposure and payments where relevant
- Monitor and manage any facilities, loans or funding arrangements
- Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and submit UK tax returns, including VAT, corporation tax and PAYE‑related filings, either directly or in coordination with external advisers
- Ensure timely compliance with all relevant tax deadlines and regulatory filing requirements
- Act as the main point of contact for external tax advisers and HMRC correspondence
- Keep abreast of relevant changes in tax legislation affecting the business
- Maintain and strengthen the internal control environment, including approval workflows and segregation of duties
- Identify and implement process improvements across finance operations
- Support budgeting and forecasting cycles in conjunction with the wider leadership team
- Oversee inventory‑related financial controls, including stock reconciliations, valuation, margin analysis and reporting on stock movements
- Manage and develop finance team members, where applicable
- Support ad hoc commercial and financial analysis as required by the business
- Candidate Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a Financial Accountant role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and hands‑on experience of statutory accounts production
- Practical experience managing treasury/cash flow functions
- Solid working knowledge of UK tax compliance (VAT, corporation tax, PAYE)
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems
- Experience with inventory accounting, stock controls, reconciliations and inventory‑related reporting
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Clear communicator, comfortable presenting financial information to non-finance stakeholders
- Experience working across multiple entities and/or jurisdictions
- Prior experience in a consumer goods fast‑paced commercial environment
- Experience liaising directly with auditors and tax advisers
- Working knowledge of Net Suite software
- Location & Working Arrangements
This role is based at Finest Brands' Cardiff office with the possibility of some hybrid arrangement but with a minimum of 3 days on site.
