We are working with an NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim General Manager – Patient Flow and Site Management on an interim basis.

The role will be based in Wales and has a mix of hybrid working with onsite and remote. The organisation is looking for someone who can start ASAP. The role will be renumerated at Band 8d NHS Agency Capped rates c£475 a day or via a salaried fixed term contract under AfC.

The role has a particular focus around flow and ensuring the hospital functions well, whilst the organisation is in a period of pressure and working through some changes to services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  1. Working in partnership with the Site Head of Nursing and Site Clinical Director, taking joint accountability for the management and leadership of the Hospital Site, including delivery of safe and high-quality clinical care and the best possible patient experience. The Hospital Leadership Team will support the Care Group Directors to achieve and deliver all local and national performance targets and standards e.g. waiting times, productivity targets and activity levels, within budget and resource availability;
  2. Provide senior leadership support to a designated Care Group and any pan-organisational initiatives as directed;
  3. Responsible for Site planning, including daily bed capacity planning and surge/seasonal planning.
  4. Ensure the continuity of hospital performance, effective flow day-to-day and management of emergency pressures escalation;
  5. Support the Care Groups in developing a clear, detailed and shared understanding of the respective sites’ performance, flow and configuration and using this understanding to inform better operational decisions and the planning and prioritisation of change;
  6. Support the Care Group’s financial governance processes and provide assurance that a robust control environment is in place;
  7. Lead the effective operation of the site infrastructure, including front door access;
  8. Resolve highly complex site-specific and cross-care group issues in conjunction with the Hospital Leadership Team and Care Group Triumvirate colleagues where there is no precedent and expert opinions may clash and differ;
  9. Monitor the delivery of high-quality care at the Hospital site with the Site Head of Nursing and Site Clinical Director;
  10. Leading and supporting reconfiguration of services across the organisation;
  11. Site leadership for civil contingencies/emergency planning and response;
  12. Monitor space utilization within the site, ensuring optimum and equitable use of site footprint, working closely with Care Groups to repurpose space as and when required.

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Master’s level qualification or experience in management, leadership or relevant discipline;
  2. In-depth knowledge of performance, finance, staff management and information systems;
  3. Experience of leading teams, supporting and developing staff members, and actively managing poor performance;
  4. Experience of providing services to a high quality with restricted resources;
  5. Experience of implementing change management projects to develop or improve services;
  6. Extensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of a range of issues across the NHS and NHS patient agenda.
