Lead the Software Backbone of a Next Generation Robotics Platform. Robotics is changing the future of manufacturing and logistics, but many industrial systems remain fragmented, difficult to integrate, and slow to scale. This UK based robotics company is building a next generation platform that makes industrial robotics easier to deploy, smarter to operate, and more scalable across global environments. Combining robotics, software engineering, data systems, and automation infrastructure, the company is developing a robot agnostic platform designed to standardise how robotics systems are integrated into real world production environments.

As they continue to scale, they are now looking for a Software Tech Lead to take ownership of technical direction and delivery across their core platform. This is a highly visible leadership role where the successful candidate will shape architecture, mentor engineers, and drive the technical execution of products that sit at the heart of industrial automation.

As Software Tech Lead, the successful candidate will define and drive the overall software architecture across backend services, APIs, observability systems, data infrastructure, and cloud integrations. Working closely with product and engineering leadership, they will translate complex deployment requirements into scalable technical solutions while ensuring the platform remains reliable, maintainable, and ready for growth.

A major focus of the role will be leading engineering execution across frontend, backend, DevOps, and QA functions. The Tech Lead will break projects into milestones, identify delivery risks early, and ensure engineers remain unblocked and aligned throughout development cycles. From API consistency and schema evolution through to CI/CD practices, security baselines, and observability frameworks, the successful candidate will help establish the engineering foundations that support long term scale.

On the backend, the role will involve guiding and contributing to the development of services, asynchronous workers, ingestion pipelines, and data models. Experience designing time series and relational database architectures for high performance dashboarding and analytics environments will be particularly valuable. While this is not a frontend heavy role, the company is looking for someone capable of mentoring engineers working with React or Vue applications. This includes helping define robust frontend patterns, improving performance, and maintaining consistency across component libraries and user experiences.

The successful candidate will also influence the company’s DevOps and reliability strategy. This includes defining release processes, CI/CD quality gates, infrastructure approaches, monitoring systems, telemetry standards, and operational readiness practices. The company is looking for someone who can elevate engineering quality through strong design reviews, documentation practices, collaborative problem solving, and a culture of accountability.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years operating at Tech Lead or Staff Engineer level
  • Strong backend engineering expertise using C++ and Python
  • Experience architecting scalable cloud services, APIs, observability systems, and data platforms
  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL and time series database design
  • Working knowledge of React or Vue environments
  • DevOps experience across CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring, and infrastructure practices
  • Additional experience with robotics, industrial systems, device integrations, multi tenant SaaS platforms, RBAC, analytics pipelines, or startup environments would be highly beneficial.

This is an opportunity to join a business building genuinely innovative robotics technology with global scale potential. The role offers the chance to influence architecture, engineering culture, and platform direction from an early stage while working on technically challenging products that combine software, automation, infrastructure, and real world robotics deployments. For engineers who enjoy solving complex systems problems and want to play a key role in shaping the future of industrial automation, this is a rare opportunity to make a significant impact.
