The Opportunity

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for an Engineering Tutor / Lecturer / Trainer / Assessor to join an organisation at a pivotal moment. They are about to launch a brand-new Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship programme, and this role will sit right at the heart of it. Rather than stepping into an established course, the successful candidate will play a key role in designing, shaping and launching the curriculum, helping to build the programme from the ground up and embedding best practice from day one. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys influencing curriculum, setting standards, and getting a programme off the ground, while still delivering high-quality teaching, training and assessment to apprentices.

About the Role

The Engineering Apprenticeship Tutor will deliver engaging, industry-relevant training and assessment across apprenticeship programmes, with an initial focus on the Level 2 Engineering Operative standard. The role blends practical workshop delivery, classroom teaching, and apprenticeship assessment, working closely with employers to ensure learning is aligned to real workplace skills and behaviours.

Key elements:

  • Designing and developing new curriculum content and learning materials
  • Delivering outstanding teaching, training and assessment
  • Managing a caseload of apprentices and supporting them through to timely completion
  • Working collaboratively with employers to tailor learning plans
  • Supporting apprentices to develop both technical competence and employability skills

Ideal Background

This role would suit someone from a strong mechanical / machining background, ideally with hands-on experience in:

  • Lathes (manual and/or CNC)
  • Milling
  • Turning
  • General workshop machining
  • Mechanical fitting or manufacturing environments

Some electrical experience alongside a mechanical background would be a strong advantage, particularly within a multi-skilled engineering context. Applicants may currently be working as (or have previously worked as):

  • Engineering Tutor
  • Engineering Lecturer
  • Engineering Trainer
  • Engineering Assessor
  • Workshop Instructor
  • Senior Engineer looking to move into education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality apprenticeship teaching, training and assessment
  • Play an active role in developing and shaping a new engineering apprenticeship curriculum
  • Support apprentice recruitment, induction and initial assessment
  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and industry-aligned learning programmes
  • Carry out progress reviews and set clear, achievable targets with apprentices and employers
  • Support apprentices with practical assessments and portfolio evidence
  • Ensure compliance with awarding body, Ofsted and apprenticeship standards
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, safety and professional conduct
  • Embed maths, English and employability skills into delivery
  • Maintain accurate records using an e-portfolio system

What They’re Looking For:

  • Strong industry experience in mechanical engineering / machining
  • Teaching, training or assessing experience or a clear desire to move into education
  • Relevant occupational qualifications (or degree-level engineering qualification)
  • Passion for developing people and raising standards
  • Confidence delivering both practical and theory-based learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employers and internal teams
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and learner wellbeing

(Support with teaching or assessing qualifications may be available for the right candidate.) Unfortunately, sponsorship isn't available on this position - you must hold full Right to work and already reside in the UK to be considered.
