Purpose of the Role

To lead and coordinate the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring all pupils receive personalised, high-quality support that enables them to achieve their potential. The SENDCo will champion inclusive practice, work collaboratively with staff and external agencies, and model professional integrity and the school's values.

Both sites are set in rural locations in Somerset, offering attractive and stimulating learning environments with specialised teaching facilities and local resources. The school maintains a high staff-to-pupil ratio, with most pupils receiving 1:1 tuition or working in small groups. Pupils are encouraged to co-operate in pairs or small groups to develop social skills and independent work strategies, which are vital to their learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support with the strategic development of SEND provision across both sites
  • Complete Annual Reviews, Interim Reviews, and Emergency Reviews of EHCPs in line with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and coordination of provision for individual pupils with SEN or a disability
  • Oversee the progress and wellbeing of looked-after pupils within the school
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents, and external agencies
  • Advise on the use of school budgets and other resources to meet pupils' needs effectively, including staff development
  • Promote inclusion across the school and ensure access to the curriculum
  • Lead and manage staff and resources effectively
  • Oversee interventions that support all pupils' learning and development
  • Quality assurance of Teaching and Learning with a focus on SEND provision
  • Attend and review PEP meetings

Requirements:

  • Accredited SENDCo qualification QTS/QTLS is essential
  • Passionate about education and inclusion
  • Leadership experience and strong leadership qualities
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in a similar SEND provision or unit
  • Ability to effectively manage SEND provision in partnership with the Headteacher
