We are looking for a dedicated Safeguarding & Welfare Officer to lead safeguarding, welfare and wellbeing activity across an apprenticeship programme. About the Role

As the Safeguarding & Welfare Officer, you will be the safeguarding lead for your designated contract, ensuring that safeguarding concerns are managed effectively, learners receive the support they need, and safeguarding remains at the heart of programme delivery.

Working closely with operational teams, external agencies and senior stakeholders, you will provide expert guidance, deliver training, promote learner wellbeing and ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead safeguarding contact for your allocated apprenticeship programme.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding and welfare concerns involving children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Manage safeguarding referrals, investigations and risk assessments while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Liaise with local authorities, external agencies and support services where appropriate.
  • Provide safeguarding advice and guidance to colleagues, employers and learners.
  • Promote Prevent, British Values and learner wellbeing through awareness campaigns and proactive initiatives.
  • Deliver safeguarding training and support to staff and stakeholders.
  • Monitor safeguarding activity, maintain accurate records and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support quality assurance, audits and inspections relating to safeguarding.
  • Foster a positive safeguarding culture across the apprenticeship provision.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience in safeguarding within education, apprenticeships, training or a similar setting.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, child protection, Prevent Duty and British Values.
  • Experience managing complex safeguarding cases and working with multi-agency partners.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to influence, advise and support colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence in analysing safeguarding data and producing reports.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a wider team.
  • A proactive approach to promoting learner wellbeing and creating positive outcomes.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 3 Safeguarding qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience conducting safeguarding investigations and managing safeguarding processes.
  • Experience maintaining safeguarding records and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to work flexibly when required, including responding to urgent safeguarding matters.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable

  • Experience within apprenticeships, further education or work-based learning.
  • Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections or quality assurance processes.
  • Experience delivering safeguarding training.
  • Knowledge of wellbeing initiatives and learner engagement programmes.
