Principal Design Engineer

Our client provides multidiscipline engineering services for the energy industry. They provide a full range of design, construction and commissioning services and are active across many sectors including Renewables, Gas Networks, Water, Energy & Utilities, and Asset Management. The company is responsible for planning and development of some of the most significant projects in the energy sector throughout UK and Ireland. They have 7 offices across England, Northern Ireland and Ireland with over 200 staff.

Opportunity:

This is a senior-level leadership opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in water infrastructure projects, offering scope to influence AMP8 and future AMP9 programmes.

Responsibilities :

• Lead mechanical design across the full project lifecycle, covering wastewater, clean water, industrial effluent, and biosolids treatment projects.
• Coordinate design deliverables with multidisciplinary teams and ensure adherence to client specifications and regulatory frameworks.
• Supervise the development of detailed designs, technical reports, and specifications.
• Contribute to HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA workshops and risk assessments.
• Mentor and support junior engineers across offices and project sites.
• Engage with clients and provide technical leadership on strategic and project-level initiatives.

Candidate Requirements:

• Engineering degree (Hons bachelor\’s degree) in Mechanical Engineering or related field relevant to the specification above.
• 7+ years post-graduate and relevant design experience.
• Proven experience in the Water Industry
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Good academic record
• Full clean driving license and own transport required.
• Fluent written and spoken English is essential.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to lead a dispersed engineering team.
