Initial 3-month contract with potential extension up to 12 months. A public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Lawyer to join its established legal team on a temporary basis. Working across a broad range of local authority matters, you will provide high quality legal advice to senior officers, elected members and internal stakeholders, supporting effective decision-making and service delivery. The role offers a varied caseload alongside opportunities to attend committees, business meetings, tribunals and court proceedings where required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing expert legal advice across local government matters
  • Managing a varied caseload and conducting legal research
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation
  • Advising at committee and business meetings
  • Supporting governance, decision-making and compliance processes
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an efficient legal service

Person Spec:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX professional (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Proven experience advising within local government or a similar public sector environment
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously
