About the role

The Management Accountant will be reporting to the Senior Commercial Finance Business Partner and supports the day-to-day financial management of FT Live Group. FT Live has become one of the FT Group’s most successful and fastest‑growing divisions, and is at the forefront of the FT’s accelerated development as an essential, interactive information source across numerous platforms. Collaborating closely with the Commercial Finance Analyst in London, the Management Accountant will be responsible for the production of timely and robust financial reporting, analysis, planning and forecasting, and driving effective decision‑making across FT Live. The successful candidate joins the Commercial Finance team at a time of growth, change and high ambition as we embark on an extensive cross‑team exercise of Finance transformation and help guide the FT towards its ambitious growth targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver on the financial management processes including all weekly, monthly and quarterly results, reporting and analyses.
  • Timely and accurate month‑end processing and reporting of FT Live revenues & costs (including T&E, marketing, commission and consolidated payroll files) and variance analysis as required by key stakeholders.
  • Monitor for signs of risk and opportunity, identify the quantitative impact and support business mitigation efforts to stay on track to achieve targets.
  • Lead the reconciliation of related Balance Sheet accounts – ensure quality record keeping, take charge of the monthly review and reconciliation and collaborate with Group Finance on governance.
  • Understanding of and responding to business queries arising from financial reporting, client invoicing, sales commission and expense management.
  • Communicate with the business partners and their teams to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest financial information and help them manage their budgets.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the business. This will involve working with all partnered departments: Sales, Marketing, Content and Operations.
  • Support in preparing timely and accurate quarterly forecasts for revenue and costs.
  • Help to develop monthly processes and drive efficiencies.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and input into driving Commercial Finance goals as part of the wider, ongoing, Finance Innovation and transformation project.
  • Support external audits, including collating relevant supporting documents, researching issues found and implementing remediation/correction required.

Responsibilities

  • A skilled analyst with an ability to connect financial performance to business drivers/dynamics – advanced level MS Excel or Google Sheets and financial modelling is essential.
  • A confident communicator able to share insights and explain identified trends, with reference to analysis and reports, to stakeholders at different levels.

Desirable

You are a potential candidate who is qualified from a professional accountancy body and will have working experience in finance or a closely related discipline. Your background would ideally include:

  • Commercial awareness of, and interest in, the events industry.
  • Experience with Google suite, Oracle and Essbase would be an advantage.
