The Financial Times is looking for an executive producer to oversee its first multi-platform video podcast, The Story of Money. The right candidate will have a deep understanding of the mechanics of narrative storytelling, a catalogue full of ear-catching audio stories which you have produced or have overseen, as well as experience in video production. You will form an integral part of the FT audio team, running the day to day deliverables of the weekly narrative podcast, overseeing all audio and video output, managing and developing a number of producers and senior producers, and providing regular feedback to our hosts. You will need to be skillful at communicating your unique and creative approach to programme-making as well as leading the team to create exciting content of consistently high quality. A passion for finance and history alongside a deep familiarity with the FT’s unique brand of globally-focused journalism is a must. This is a fixed-term contract through December 2026.
Key duties
- Oversee editorial direction of the show
- Manage weekly output (from iteration to completion) and provide feedback and sign-offs on scripts, all video and audio edits, as well as web copy
- Work closely with the video producer and sound engineer to refine edits and to build a signature look and sound for FT podcasts
- Provide constructive feedback on the podcast strand to hosts and producers through regular team meetings
- Produce and edit shows when required
- Manage relationships with FT teams from creative to commercial as and when required
- Collaborate closely with the video and social media desks
- Coordinate with in-house lawyer on fair dealing, copyright and libel risks
Our ideal candidate
- Has a proven track record as an Executive Producer, with strong editorial experience, some of which is in podcast, radio, or video production
- Is highly-skilled in editing on DAWs, mainly Descript and Pro Tools, as well as an understanding of video production in Adobe Premiere
- Has exceptional storytelling and written skills, with an acute ear for pacing and narrative structure
- Can communicate complex ideas with clarity
- Experience managing complex projects from concept to completion
- Has experience managing and developing more junior colleagues, providing guidance and support where needed
- Has experience managing and developing host talent, building strong relationships and ensuring they are supported and empowered to deliver their best work
- Will make sure the FT’s rigorous editorial standards are maintained and all commercial integrations fit the editorial of each show while complying with best practice
