Contract: FTC 12 months
Working hours: 35 hours per week is full time. Where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns. Please let us know in your application your desired working pattern.

About Us: The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers.
As part of a maturing and diverse Analysis and Insight function, you will support the implementation and growth of a data led strategy within the Financial Ombudsman Service. As a Senior Data and Insight Analyst, you will be asked to lead on a number of key analytical work areas as part of a central analytical team with the primary aim of using your analytical and insight skills to support the organisation in making the best decisions from the best evidence. This is a key role within our Analysis and Insight function, which will help us to drive evidence-based decisions across the Financial Ombudsman Service and build our capacity and capability across a range of analytical tools and approaches.
What You’ll Do:
- Use your experience in working with inferential, descriptive, causal and predictive techniques, along with sound business knowledge, to produce impactful analytical outputs that support evidence-based decision making.
- Work with accuracy and professionalism, to deliver on longer term analytical projects, ad-hoc urgent requests and a self-driven program of work.
- Ensure your analysis – and the data it is based on – is quality assured, documented and fit-for-purpose, seeking feedback and opportunities for continuous improvement. Additionally, quality assurance of the analytical work of others in the wider team, when required.
- Demonstrate initiative and drive, challenging and prompting where necessary and building the brand of the analytics team through effective stakeholder and colleague engagement.
- Supporting, and mentoring other analysts in the delivery of their workstreams.
- Delivering a fair and efficient service, that reflects the diversity of our customers and our people.
Minimum Criteria:
- A demonstrated track record of impact through quantitative analysis, ideally in a large organisation that prides itself on customer service.
- Experience of leading and delivering a portfolio of analytical work. Ideally, you can showcase examples of the work you have led on.
- The ability to work with ambiguity, focusing on the big picture and eliciting the key issue from stakeholders or situations, so your – and others’ analytical expertise drives evidence-based improvements.
- Knowledge (Math/Stats degree or aligned qualification preferred) and practical experience of a range of quantitative analytical techniques.
- Comfortable working knowledge of: SQL, Python and/or R, mathematical modelling, sampling and statistical theory, systems thinking and operational research methods.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written – you can explain your ideas in a way decision makers understand and can act on.
- Attention to detail coupled with a strong quality assurance focus, to ensure accurate solution delivery that meets the stated requirements.
