By joining our team, you'll enjoy the best of both worlds – hybrid working and the collaboration of a great office environment. Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office, as well as extensive opportunities for personal and career development.

About Us: The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.

What You’ll Do: You’ll provide clear written responses to customers looking for answers to enquiries which are often demanding, and you will be confident speaking to individuals over the phone to help them understand how we’ve processed their information. You will review large amounts of information relating to different product areas daily and you’ll be excellent at paying attention to detail so that we won’t disclose information that we shouldn’t be – in line with the legislation. You will get to grips quickly with our processes and redaction tools – so that requests are handled promptly and appropriately. You will need to make balanced and measured decisions about what information to share with a customer and what to withhold – and your rationale will be documented in a structured way – so that we’re able to justify the way we’ve processed requests to customers and the regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). You’ll spot complicated or sensitive requests and work with colleagues across the organisation to give the right response. You’ll be on the lookout for best practice, always considering how we can use the latest developments to continuously improve how we deal with information requests, and you’ll work flexibly across the team when demand requires.

Minimum Criteria:

  • Experience in a similar role focused on data protection, GDPR compliance and SAR requests, ideally including employee SAR requests
  • Demonstrable experience dealing with service complaints
  • Customer service experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and provide solutions

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
  • Proficiency in using data protection and privacy management software/tools
  • Dealing with confidential and sensitive information quickly and effectively
  • Experience of working in the financial services sector

Why You'll Love Working With Us: We are a values-led organisation. Our values define our culture, influence our decisions, and underpin our vision and strategy. They set out how we play our PART through Purpose, Ambition, Respect and Trust. You can learn more about our values here:

  • Wellbeing: Health plan, gym memberships, mental health support

  • 25 days holiday entitlement, with the option to buy extra or sell days
  • Generous pension
  • Various Family Friendly Policies, including enhanced maternity pay, carers and dependants leave

  • Choice of voluntary benefits including Technology scheme, Cycle to work scheme, Will-writing service amongst others
  • Gym membership discounts, and a fully equipped on-site gym open 24/7 in London only
