Senior Data and Insight Analyst

Contract: FTC 12 months. Working hours: 35 per week. Salary: £54,500 – £60,000 depending on experience and location.

Location: London. Reporting to: Lead Analyst.

As part of the Analysis and Insight function, you will support the implementation and growth of a data‑led strategy within the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Responsibilities

  • Use inferential, descriptive, causal and predictive techniques to produce impactful analytical outputs that support evidence‑based decision making.
  • Work with accuracy and professionalism to deliver longer‑term analytical projects, ad‑hoc urgent requests, and a self‑driven programme of work.
  • Ensure analysis and data are quality‑assured, documented, and fit‑for‑purpose; seek feedback and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Quality‑assure analytical work of others when required.
  • Demonstrate initiative and drive, challenging and prompting where necessary; build the brand of the analytics team through effective stakeholder and colleague engagement.
  • Support and mentor other analysts in the delivery of their workstreams.
  • Deliver a fair and efficient service that reflects the diversity of our customers and our people.

Qualifications

  • Track record of impact through quantitative analysis, ideally in a large organisation that prioritises customer service.
  • Experience leading and delivering a portfolio of analytical work with demonstrable examples.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity, focusing on the big picture and eliciting the key issue from stakeholders.
  • Knowledge (Math/Stats degree or aligned qualification preferred) and practical experience of a range of quantitative analytical techniques.
  • Comfortable working knowledge of SQL, Python and/or R, mathematical modelling, sampling and statistical theory, systems thinking and operational research methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; can explain ideas in a way decision makers understand.
  • Attention to detail with strong quality assurance focus, ensuring accurate delivery that meets requirements.
