The Financial Ombudsman Service is a free and impartial service that aims to resolve customer complaints in an efficient and effective way. We sit at the heart of the financial services ecosystem and wider regulatory family, and we play a vital role for consumers and small businesses to secure redress when things go wrong. Every year we resolve thousands of disputes, setting the standard for modern, efficient and accessible alternative dispute resolution. We also use and share the insight gained from our casework with key stakeholders across the financial services sector and with bodies such as the FCA and HM Treasury, helping to strengthen the wider financial services environment and support a more confident climate for investment.

This is an important moment for the organisation as we continue to evolve in response to rapid technological change, shifting consumer expectations and the increasingly complex landscape of financial services. The government, in support of its Growth Mission, has asked the country’s regulators to remove barriers to economic growth and create a regulatory environment that boosts investment, innovation and opportunity across the United Kingdom. Now is an exciting and important time to join the Financial Ombudsman Service and help lead our journey as we deliver significant organisational reform and drive forward major digital and technological transformation.

We are looking for two dynamic Non-Executive Directors whose skills and experience will complement the diversity of our current Board, bringing strong oversight, support and challenge as we work to meet our strategic objectives and deliver on our core purpose. We are seeking individuals with Executive and/or Board-level experience gained in complex, highly regulated environments, and who can demonstrate the ability to think strategically, scrutinise performance and contribute effectively to robust governance.

  • One appointment will focus on AI and technology, bringing strategic insight into how emerging technologies, including AI, automation and data-driven tools, can enhance the way we work, improve customer journeys and strengthen the organisation’s wider transformation.
  • The second appointment will bring broad financial services and commercial expertise, contributing a strong understanding of markets, regulation and customer trends, and helping ensure the organisation remains resilient, responsive and financially sustainable.

If you have a passion for fairness, independence and delivering excellent outcomes for consumers and financial businesses alike, we would be delighted to hear from you. The appointment of the NEDs of the Financial Ombudsman Service will be made by the FCA.

The closing date for applications is 09:00, 1st May 2026.
