About Us:
The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers. The Public Affairs Team sits within the Communications directorate and leads the organisation’s engagement with key regulatory, government and parliamentary stakeholders. The team focuses on strengthening external relationships, raising awareness of our service, and sharing insight to influence improvements across the financial services sector. This is a fast-paced area, working at the centre of policy, reputation and stakeholder engagement.
This year, the team is supporting several strategic priorities. Using data and insight, the team continues to monitor developments across the regulatory landscape, ensuring the organisation is well positioned to respond to emerging issues and influence the wider environment effectively.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll sit within the Communications directorate as part of the Public Affairs Team, helping shape how the organisation engages with key regulatory, government and parliamentary stakeholders. You’ll support and deliver stakeholder engagement plans, build strong relationships and represent the organisation externally, while working closely with internal teams to ensure joined-up, consistent messaging. Your role will also involve monitoring developments across the financial services and regulatory landscape, attending regular meetings with stakeholders, leading internal briefings for senior leaders, drafting responses to stakeholder consultations and responding to stakeholder enquiries in a strategic, timely way.

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
- Proven experience engaging with external stakeholders in a regulatory, government or policy environment (evidenced through roles, projects or campaigns).
- A clear understanding of the UK regulatory or policy landscape, ideally within financial services.
- Experience using data, research or evidence to inform recommendations, briefings or decision-making.
- Demonstrable experience drafting clear, concise written outputs (e.g. briefings, consultation responses, stakeholder communications).
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.
