Contract: Initially a Fixed term contract for 24 months to cover the lifetime of the apprenticeship. On successfully passing your apprenticeship qualification, we are committed to offering a suitable permanent position.

Working hours: 35 hours per week is full time. As an apprentice you will be spending 20% of your time on off-the-job learning, which includes attending lectures/tutorials with your training provider.

About Us: The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.

The Asset Management Apprentice will support the development of the organisation’s IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Configuration Management (CMDB) capability. The role contributes to building a robust, accurate and auditable asset management estate covering end-user assets, software assets and infrastructure assets, all forming part of the wider CMDB ecosystem that underpins service management, operational stability and governance.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support management of end-user assets (laptops, peripherals, accessories) across their lifecycle
  • Maintain accurate asset and configuration item (CI) records in the CMDB
  • Support software asset and licence record maintenance including entitlement and deployment
  • Assist with infrastructure and platform asset records
  • Perform data quality checks and reconciliation activities
  • Support joiner, mover and leaver processes to ensure asset accuracy
  • Work with Service Management and Front-End Services to align asset records to live services
  • Contribute to audits and governance activities
  • Assist in documenting processes and identifying improvement opportunities

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:

  • You will have achieved 5 GCSEs at grade A-C, including English and Maths (or equivalent qualification).
  • On enrolment onto the apprenticeship (September 2026) you will be at least 18 years of age, not be in full-time education or receiving funding for other learning programmes.
  • You will need a full UK Right to Work for the duration of the apprenticeship, and have valid and eligible residency status and be a resident in the UK for 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship.

In addition your CV should show us:

  • No prior specialist experience required but an interest in IT, service management or asset management would be ideal so use your CV to showcase your interest!

The recruitment process: Once you have applied, the recruitment process is as follows:

  • Online tests: The team will review your qualifications once the job advert has closed. If you meet the qualification requirements you will be emailed tests to complete, which must be completed within 72 hours. The tests are: Cognitive Ability test to assess your problem solving, critical thinking & attention to detail; Workplace Behaviour Assessment, to evaluate if you’d be happy in the role applied for.
  • On-demand Video interview: If you pass the previous stage, you will be sent an on-demand video interview to complete. This is your opportunity to tell us why you have applied for an apprenticeship, and how you feel you would be a good fit for the apprenticeship you applied for. You have 72 hours to complete this step. If you are successful, you will be invited to an interview.
  • Face to face interview: If you are successful after the video interview, you will be invited to an interview with your future team. Here we are looking to understand if you have the skills to excel in the apprenticeship. It is also your opportunity to learn more about the Financial Ombudsman Service & what you’ll be doing as an apprentice.
