Contract: Initially a Fixed term contract for 36 months to cover the lifetime of the apprenticeship. On successfully passing your apprenticeship qualification, we are committed to offering a suitable permanent position.
Working hours: 35 hours per week is full time. As an apprentice you will be spending 20% of your time on off-the-job learning, which includes attending lectures/tutorials with your training provider.

About Us: The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.
By joining us as an apprentice you will be working towards a Data Science Degree Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship will provide you with a range of skills, from problem structuring, through coding, analytics, modelling and statistics, to disseminating and storytelling. You will gain real-world experience of influencing decisions in an impactful way to drive service improvements for consumer and financial services providers business. This apprenticeship will give you the academic knowledge and practical experience of data science and its application.
What You’ll Do: Through your apprenticeship you will work with your line manager to agree and deliver against clear personal objectives, with support from a dedicated mentor within the organisation. This will help the Financial Ombudsman to deliver a fair and efficient service, which reflects the diversity of our customers and our people.
- Building your understanding of our organisation, alongside your proficiency in and understanding of data science.
- Working on projects with support and guidance from other colleagues within the analysis and insight group. These will include areas such as identifying new operational or strategic insights using advanced statistical analysis, data mining and data visualisation techniques.
- Ensuring your analytics - and the data and research it is based on - is quality assured, documented and fit-for-purpose.
- Providing analytical and insight support or advice to projects across the organisation.
You will be supported by more experienced colleagues, but equally begin to work with more independence over time as you build the relevant technical capability.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
- 104 UCAS points and GCSE English and maths (grade C or above), or a recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and relevant experience will be considered) or completion of a level 3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
- On enrolment onto the apprenticeship (September 2026) you will not be in full-time education or receiving funding for other learning programmes.
- You will need a full UK Right to Work for the duration of the apprenticeship, and have valid and eligible residency status and be a resident in the UK for 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship.
What you’ll bring (in addition): We don’t expect you to have studied data science or statistics previously, but we are keen to know what interests you about the subject and its potential to inform business decisions. Natural flair for data, your CV showcases this effectively.

The recruitment process: Once you have applied, the recruitment process is as follows:
- Online tests: The team will review your qualifications once the job advert has closed. If you meet the qualification requirements you will be emailed tests to complete, which must be completed within 72 hours. The tests are: Cognitive Ability test to assess your problem solving, critical thinking & attention to detail; Workplace Behaviour Assessment, to evaluate if you’d be happy in the role applied for.
- On-demand Video interview: If you pass the previous stage, you will be sent an on-demand video interview to complete. This is your opportunity to tell us why you have applied for an apprenticeship, and how you feel you would be a good fit for the apprenticeship you applied for. You have 72 hours to complete this step. If you are successful, you will be invited to an interview.
- Face to face interview: If you are successful after the video interview, you will be invited to an interview with your future team. Here we are looking to understand if you have the skills to excel in the apprenticeship. It is also your opportunity to learn more about the Financial Ombudsman Service & what you’ll be doing as an apprentice.
