The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not‑for‑profit organisation that resolves disputes between consumers, small businesses, and financial service providers.

- What you’ll do
- Provide clear written responses to customers’ enquiries, often demanding, and speak to individuals over the phone to help them understand how we’ve processed their information.
- Review large amounts of information relating to different product areas daily and pay close attention to detail so that we do not disclose information that we shouldn’t – in line with legislation.
- Become familiar quickly with our processes and redaction tools to handle requests promptly and appropriately.
- Make balanced and measured decisions about what information to share with a customer and what to withhold, documenting rationale in a structured way to justify processing to customers and the regulator (ICO).
- Spot complicated or sensitive requests and work with colleagues across the organisation to provide the right response.
- Identify best practice opportunities, considering the latest developments to continuously improve how we handle information requests, and work flexibly across the team when demand requires.
- Minimum criteria
- Experience in a similar role focused on data protection, GDPR compliance and SAR requests, ideally including employee SAR requests.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with service complaints.
- Customer service experience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and provide solutions.

- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Proficiency in using data protection and privacy management software / tools.
- Experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information quickly and effectively.
- Experience in the financial services sector.
