An established UK construction contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to work on a chemical/industrial building refurbishment project in Manchester City Centre. This role will suit a Design Manager with strong technical knowledge and experience managing complex refurbishment works, particularly within regulated or high-risk environments. You will play a key role in coordinating design information, managing consultants, and ensuring buildability, compliance, and programme certainty throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to completion
- Acting as the main point of contact between the construction team, consultants, and the client on design matters
- Reviewing and managing design deliverables to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and client requirements
- Identifying and managing design risks, clashes, and buildability issues
- Supporting procurement by providing clear and timely design information
- Managing design change control and ensuring alignment with programme and cost
- Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and best practice, particularly within a chemical/industrial environment
About You
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within construction or refurbishment projects
- Experience working on industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical, or high-risk environments is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and design coordination processes
- Confident communicator with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively on a busy city-centre refurbishment project
- Relevant construction or design-related qualifications preferred
