Job Advert: Multi-Skilled Line Engineer Middlewich
Location: Middlewich
Reports to: Line Leader / Engineering Supervisor
About The Role
We are looking for a Multi-Skilled Line Engineer to join our cross-functional engineering team at our Middlewich site. Working in a 24/7 production environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of production lines by providing proactive maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
As a Line Engineer, you will work closely with Operations to support production targets, minimise downtime, and enhance equipment performance, quality, and efficiency. This is a hands-on role, ideal for an experienced engineer with strong technical knowledge and the ability to work under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond quickly and effectively to machinery breakdowns and complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Maintain and repair electrical and mechanical equipment, including automation and FMCG machinery.
- Support operational colleagues during breaks or absences as part of lean production teams.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, health & safety standards, and statutory requirements.
- Record maintenance activities on the CMMS (Shire) system.
- Diagnose faults, implement corrective action, and provide feedback to improve PPM systems.
- Order and manage spare parts, liaising with contractors when required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to boost quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Provide coaching and training to colleagues as required.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Time-served, multi-skilled engineer (mechanical or electrical) with experience in automation/FMCG equipment.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
- Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office, mobile devices).
- Motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team under pressure.
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential:
- GCSE/O Level Grade C or above in Maths and English.
- Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (ONC/BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and health & safety mindset.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Experience in FMCG or a regulated industry.
