SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules they operate by (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets.

In the Infrastructure & Exchanges directorate, the MI Trading Venues Department integrates supervision of key market infrastructure and corporate finance firms with policy frameworks for trading venues, aiming to promote fair, orderly, and transparent markets across a broad range of asset classes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Part of a team delivering the Wholesale Markets Review, a joint initiative with HM Treasury to assess and improve the UK’s wholesale financial markets.
  • Develop policy reforms end to end, including drafting consultation documents and public statements.
  • Shaping policy reforms by working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including the new secondary markets advisory committee.
  • Identify and mitigate future areas of risk in the trading and conduct landscape.
  • Conduct horizon scans of relevant markets to identify issues and risks.
  • Provide policy advice, drafting papers and briefs for internal stakeholders.
  • Provide ongoing policy support to FCA teams supervising trading venues and trading firms.

Minimum Requirements

  • Significant regulatory experience in finance services or other sectors.
  • Proven experience managing and delivering complex projects or initiatives.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including distilling complex issues into succinct messages.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience dealing with complex policy issues relevant to consumer protection.
  • Solid understanding of UK and EU regulatory landscape.
  • Ability to review large amounts of complex information and develop strategies.
  • Proven ability to acquire knowledge, source, manipulate, and review data quickly.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use sound judgement.
  • A curious and inquisitive mindset, motivated to deliver in the public interest.
