Team: Asset Management Sector Team

Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) £53,800–£71,600 per annum; London £59,200–£78,000 per annum. Salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
Grade: Senior Associate, Regulatory
Security Clearance: SC Clearance required (SC Guidance) – candidate must hold or obtain Security Check (SC) level vetting.

Overview

The FCA regulates financial services firms in the UK to keep markets fair, thriving and effective. The Supervision, Policy and Competition (SPC) division oversees firms, creates and reviews rules, and identifies ineffective competition. Within the Buy‑Side Directorate, the Market and Policy (MAP) Department develops policy to support effective supervision across asset management, funds and pensions. The Asset Management Sector Team contributes market intelligence and supervises strategic work in the Buyside market.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support the Buyside market strategy lifecycle, risk processes and harm mitigation workstreams, enabling better regulatory outcomes and enhancing market integrity.
  • Transform data into insight, gathering and analysing intelligence to identify key risks and opportunities, and shape evidence‑based decision‑making at a strategic level.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the asset management landscape, distribution channels, and macroeconomic and operational trends to inform supervision and support.
  • Spot and prioritise emerging risks, track and elevate directorate risks, and contribute to forums such as the Firm and Fund Forum.
  • Produce high‑quality reports, briefings, speeches and presentations for internal and external audiences, improving stakeholder engagement and supporting senior decision‑making.
  • Enhance regulatory effectiveness by exploring innovative ways to use data to refine and improve regulatory focus, leading to smarter, more targeted oversight.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience in industry, consultancy or regulatory work within asset management or related sectors.
  • Experience reviewing sector data from multiple sources, making sound judgments supported by evidence, and presenting key points and recommendations.
  • Experience managing risk processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Interest in data and experience using programming languages such as R, SQL, and Python.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively to meet goals.
  • Experience managing stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good knowledge of the wholesale market in which the asset management sector operates.
  • Ability to prioritise and work efficiently on key tasks.
  • Strong written communication skills.
