About the FCA and Team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, ensuring markets remain fair, thriving, and effective. The Authorisations Division is the first point of contact for firms and individuals seeking regulated financial services; it approves applications ensuring compliance with standards.

Role responsibilities:

  • Assess fitness and propriety of senior managers at regulated firms, including directors, CEOs, board chairs and chief risk officers.
  • Manage a demanding and varied portfolio of applications, using investigative judgment to identify risks and ensure proportionate action and timely outcomes.
  • Engage with senior internal and external stakeholders to reach balanced determinations and demonstrate credibility.
  • Conduct competency‑based interviews with senior applicants where appropriate, directly shaping decisions on leadership quality.
  • Lead and contribute to departmental and divisional initiatives supporting continuous improvement and change.
  • Gain a comprehensive view of the financial services industry and deepen understanding of FCA and Authorisations Division operations.
  • Deliver varied, high‑profile work with robust support for learning and career development.

Minimum skills required:

  • Prior experience managing a varied and complex workload with strong organisational skills.
  • Experience in investigating, assessing and analysing information from diverse sources.
  • Ability to persuade senior internal and external stakeholders.

Essential skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Solid knowledge of the financial services industry, especially Consumer Investments, and understanding of the FCA authorisation approach.
  • Practical understanding of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR).
  • Inclusive and cooperative, capable of partnering effectively with colleagues to meet shared goals.
  • Highly organised with planning, prioritisation and time‑management skills for competing priorities.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal oversight while coaching and supporting others.
