The Authorisations Division serves as the initial point of contact for firms and individuals seeking to provide regulated financial services in the UK, making authorisation decisions to ensure applicants meet the FCA’s standards. Register & Authorisations Services (RAS) department acts as a central hub within the division, providing high quality shared services that underpin the effective and efficient delivery of Authorisations. Our vision is to deliver reliable, high quality Financial Services Register products and to strengthen Authorisations through robust operational support, well designed processes and consistently high standards of service.

Role responsibilities

  • Ensure the RAS teams operate efficiently by delivering high‑quality administrative and logistical support, including diary management for the RAS management team, coordinating meetings, travel arrangements, and schedules as required.
  • Ensure divisional communication channels are kept up to date, including intranet updates and information flow across RAS, while gaining practical insight into data management and the FCA’s evolving approach to storing and using data.
  • Work collaboratively across RAS to support cross‑department coordination and onboarding activities, while providing administrative support that ensures consistent processes, effective document management, and smooth operational governance.
  • Organise and coordinate department team events including logistics, scheduling, and materials, while contributing to a fun, focused, effective team.
  • Providing cross‑divisional administrative support during busy periods or resource gaps while working at the FCA’s frontline to quickly develop a solid understanding of how authorisations operate.

Skills required

Minimum:

  • Proven experience in a role which has required clear written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to cultivate and manage stakeholder relationships across all levels.
  • Proven experience working in an environment with competing deadlines, combining solid organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work in a structured way and deliver high-quality results.
  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality administrative support, including mailbox management.

Essential:

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to analyse and rapidly assimilate new information and understand complex issues, and provide practical recommendations, while maintaining discretion and composure when handling sensitive and high‑stakes matters.
  • Ability to work on their own initiative and plan effectively, prioritising tasks and handling competing deadlines, while also contributing positively within a team to meet shared goals.
  • Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive staff information with discretion, professionalism, integrity, and the ability to maintain security, trust, and confidentiality of information.
  • Responsive to changing circumstances and action-oriented, taking initiative to address challenges with a positive, solution-focused mindset and following them to completion.
  • Agile and able to handle shifting priorities, with the ability to work effectively during tight deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.
