Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranges from £52,400 to £71,200 and London from £57,700 to £78,300 per annum, commensurate with skills and experience. This role is graded as Senior Associate – Regulatory.

Overview: We regulate financial services firms across the UK and play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance. The Payments and Digital Assets Department in the Authorisations Division will assess applications for the forthcoming crypto‑asset regulatory regime and launch a pre‑application offering with firms.

Role responsibilities:

  • Manage complex case strategies and high‑profile casework, escalating risks and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Lead meetings with firms, educate them on their regulatory responsibilities, and deliver difficult messages constructively.
  • Deliver high‑quality regulatory decisions, ensuring timely and consistent outcomes in line with service levels and stakeholder input.
  • Assist the identification of harm, collaborate with Data and Intelligence colleagues to spot harms, themes and trends.
  • Interact with senior‑level individuals at firms and key industry stakeholders as a key FCA representative.
  • Engage stakeholders to build connections that uncover risks, disseminate insights, and enable sound regulatory judgments.

Minimum skills required:

  • Prior regulatory or industry experience focused on regulatory requirements, especially Anti‑Money Laundering requirements applicable to crypto‑asset firms.
  • Experience investigating and analysing complex information, arriving at well‑informed judgments, and presenting relevant issues and recommendations timely.

Essential skills:

  • Knowledge of blockchain, crypto‑asset business models and risks.
  • Knowledge of MLRs, financial crime investigations, policy or compliance, money laundering typologies or ML risks.
  • Ability to balance competing projects, work quickly, meet tight deadlines, and use sound judgement.
  • Clear and logical thinking, with the ability to describe complex issues concisely in oral and written work.
  • Experience assessing the robustness of financial crime control frameworks gained from financial crime, regulator or consultancy work.
  • Effective relationship and stakeholder‑management skills to engage senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the system‑wide response to economic and financial crime and the roles of agencies such as the FCA.
