From satellite links to next-generation sensing systems, we design and manufacture high-performance components and subsystems—including SSPAs, filters, and transceivers—ensuring seamless connectivity and precision at the highest frequencies.
Working with our team of experienced RF, electronics and systems engineers, you will contribute to the development of our radio frequency products with responsibility for the design of MMIC amplifiers, frequency converters & attenuators ensuring that electrical performance, quality, cost and manufacturability requirements are met.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Working in collaboration with our team of RF & systems engineers, you will design and layout a wide range of MMICs on various substrates including GaAs, GaN and InP for integration into Filtronic\’s telecommunications and defence products.
- Within the role, you will be responsible for the design of LNAs, up-converters, down-converters, gain blocks, power amplifiers, variable attenuators and multipliers for multiple applications covering 37GHz to 115GHz and beyond.
- Identifying appropriate MMIC process technologies for new designs.
- Obtaining the state-of-the-art knowledge necessary: e.g. from the marketplace, technical publications, design techniques, design kits.
- Documenting your designs and verifying through simulation and measurement that your design will meet performance specifications in volume production.
- Pro-actively participate in design reviews and initiate design reviews in order to mitigate risk when appropriate.
- Delivery of fully verified and documented designs in line with project defined technical, schedule and cost constraints.
- Conduct Thermal & MTBF analysis.
- Completion and checking of design documentation and submission to FAB.
- Liaising with Semiconductor FABs.
- Undertake design verification and validation including preparation of test specifications, test reports and reliability testing/evaluation in our fully equipped labs.
- Identification and extraction of IP from design activity that is suitable for patenting.
Requirements
- Relevant Degree (Masters or PhD preferred).
- 5+ years\’ experience working in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience designing RF amplifiers, LNAs & frequency converter circuits using GaAs or GaN MMIC HEMT technology.
- Excellent hands-on measurement and characterisation skills using probe stations and RF test equipment.
- Understand principles of all semiconductor technologies and their specific relationship to RFIC/MMIC products.
- Experience of RF / microwave communication systems design and implementation desirable.
- Previous experience working with external Semiconductor foundry processes also desirable.
