Finance Report Writer (D365, Microsoft Report Writer & Power BI)

We are seeking an experienced Finance Report Writer with strong expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Report Writer (Financial Reporting), Power BI, SQL, and financial data structures to support enterprise financial reporting and analytics. The role will focus on developing, maintaining, and enhancing financial reports and dashboards that support financial operations, statutory reporting, and management decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, IT, and Data teams to ensure reporting solutions are accurate, scalable, and aligned with finance data models and data warehouse structures. This position requires a strong combination of technical reporting expertise and financial domain knowledge, with the ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain financial reports using Microsoft Report Writer / Dynamics 365 Financial Reporting (Management Reporter).
• Design and deliver standard and ad-hoc financial reports supporting management reporting, statutory reporting, and financial analysis.
• Build structured financial reporting packs including P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, variance reporting and Project profitability.
• Ensure reporting consistency across business units and maintain standardised financial report templates.
• Develop and support reports based on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations data structures.
• Extract and analyse financial data from D365 modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Project Accounting.
• Support month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that provide interactive financial insights.
• Build data models, semantic layers, and DAX calculations for financial KPIs and analysis.
• Implement data security and Row-Level Security (RLS) where required.
• Write and optimise SQL queries and stored procedures to extract, transform, and prepare financial datasets for reporting.
• Work with data warehouse environments to ensure reporting datasets are accurate and aligned with enterprise data models.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure reporting data pipelines are reliable and performant.
• Understand and work with financial data structures, dimensional models, and enterprise data warehouse architecture.
• Support the development and maintenance of finance data marts and reporting layers.
• Ensure financial reporting aligns with data governance, reconciliation, and audit standards.
• Develop advanced Excel-based financial analysis and reporting tools using Power Query, Power Pivot, and complex formulas.
• Support finance teams with ad-hoc data analysis, reconciliations, and financial insight generation.
• Work closely with Finance, IT, and Data teams to gather reporting requirements and deliver solutions.
• Translate complex finance and technical requirements into clear reporting outputs.
• Provide support and guidance to finance users on reporting tools and dashboards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with Microsoft Report Writer / Dynamics 365 Financial Reporting.
• Experience developing reports within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
• Strong Power BI development skills, including data modelling and DAX.
• Advanced SQL / T-SQL query writing and optimisation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, Power Pivot, and financial modelling.
• Experience working with enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Deep understanding of data warehouse architecture and reporting data models.
• Experience working with structured financial datasets and reporting layers.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and Azure data platforms or modern analytics tools is desirable.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting data structures.
• Familiarity with finance processes: General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables, Fixed Assets, Project accounting.
• Experience of building and maintaining financial and management reporting.
• Experience supporting finance transformation or ERP reporting environments.
• 5+ years of experience in finance reporting, BI reporting, or financial data analytics.
• Experience working with ERP financial reporting systems (preferably Dynamics 365).
• Experience supporting finance departments or finance transformation programmes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent attention to detail and financial data accuracy.
• Ability to translate complex financial data into clear and actionable insights.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to work across finance, IT, and data teams.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or modern cloud data platforms.
• Experience working with finance data marts or financial data warehouse models.
• Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning systems.
