About Us: Fifth Dimension is bringing vibe working to document-heavy industries. Today we work with real estate businesses in the US, EU and APAC, automating complex tasks, extracting valuable insights from documents, and empowering professionals to focus on high-impact work. Our AI workspace transforms how large investment managers and developers handle leases, development documents, and investment decisions. We are a London and New York based startup with investors across Europe and the US. Our founders bring extensive experience in real estate, data and analytics, and technology leadership.
The Challenge: It’s a typical day of analyzing usage analytics and shipping improvements: you hypothesise, prototype a solution, and demo it to stakeholders. You engage with customers to understand day-to-day usage, translate insights into a spec, and start building. You collaborate across teams to deliver a solution that meets real customer needs.
About You: You are an expert software engineer who thinks in terms of user outcomes, not just code. You understand the problem space deeply, make product-informed decisions, and build solutions customers didn’t know they needed until they cannot live without them. You have experience across the full stack—from backends and APIs to polished frontends—and strong product intuition for talking to customers and balancing scope, speed, and quality. You’re proficient with AI coding assistance tools and collaborate effectively with AI to maximise productivity. You pay attention to end-to-end user experience, adapt quickly, and mentor others while working with commercial teams and customers. You value personal growth and view complex problems as opportunities to expand your capabilities.
Your Impact: Reporting to our CTO, you’ll own and shape core product areas end-to-end—from discovery and design through architecture, implementation, deployment, and customer adoption. You’ll work with the engineering team and commercial stakeholders to deliver value to enterprise customers and drive the business forward.
Day to Day:
- Think like a Product Manager: own core product areas, balance technical excellence with business impact, and help write the spec.
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex features from discovery to production deployment and customer adoption.
- Talk to customers regularly to understand workflows, pain points, and unarticulated needs.
- Collaborate with product, design, and commercial teams to shape the roadmap and translate insights into robust technical solutions.
- Leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development.
- Lead development of underlying systems: scalable APIs and backend services for document processing and data extraction; reliable streaming and event-driven architectures; frontend experiences for AI capabilities; integrations with enterprise systems.
- Implement data privacy and security by design.
- Champion engineering best practices: testing, observability, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with commercial teams.
- Invest in your own growth and take on ambitious technical challenges.
- Apply our engineering philosophy: intellectual honesty, effective time management, clear communication, and innovation.
Our Values and Engineering Culture: Our core principles are: Own it, Ship it, and Don’t Be Boring. Our engineering culture emphasises product-minded engineering, intellectual honesty, effective time management, clear communication, innovation, and personal growth.
Intellectual Curiosity and Honesty in Action: We value curiosity and honesty in problem solving, including documenting findings, sharing results, and improving product reliability.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience in high-growth startups or fast-paced tech environments.
- Track record building software with strong engineering practices.
- Experience owning end-to-end product development from discovery to delivery and customer adoption.
- Demonstrated product instinct and the ability to shape what gets built.
- Strong Python skills with customer-facing features on critical paths.
- Experience designing and building high-quality APIs, services, and distributed systems.
- Solid frontend skills and polished, user-facing applications.
- Proficiency with AI coding assistance tools (e.g., Claude Code).
- Intellectual curiosity and honesty; ability to dig into problems and share findings.
- Ability to balance immediate user needs with long-term architecture.
- Exceptional communication abilities for explaining concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ambition and resilience in a seed-stage company.
- Commercial awareness and delivering ongoing value to customers.
- Passion for personal growth and continuous learning.
Nice To Have (But Not Required):
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and container orchestration.
- Past experience in real estate, law, or finance.
- Robust software testing and deployment practices.
- Component-based system design and microservices.
- Event-driven architectures and streaming systems.
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities.
What We Offer You: Our benefits package goes beyond the standard startup offering, including tailored support for life challenges, meaningful parental leave, and a salary with equity. We offer a competitive salary range and benefits designed to support your well-being and growth.
The Process: Submit your CV with answers to our candidate questions, phone or video call with our CTO to discuss fit, live task and competency interview, in-person culture-fit interview with a range of people across the business, optionally, a paid one-week trial for candidates available for setup.
