Location: Fife House, Glenrothes

Building Standards & Public Safety is part of Protective Services and within the Place Directorate. Protective Services includes a wide range of statutory and advisory services designed to protect public health and consumer safety through Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Building Standards and Public Safety functions.

The verification and building warrant enforcement team includes Team Manager, 2 Lead Professionals and 15 case officer posts. The team processes over 3,000 building warrant applications a year from minor applications to large/complex non-domestic buildings. The Lead Professional role includes processing major building warrant applications as well as supporting other team members.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Maintain an overview of the team’s activities to meet agreed targets and allocate staff/resources to meet competing priorities.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with agreed policies, including technical policies, quality assurance and customer service.
  • Lead training and development for all technical staff.

As a progressive employer, we offer the opportunity to work in this role as a “blended working” arrangement with home-working opportunities and occasional office-working as required. While the significant part of the role can and will be carried out remotely, candidates should be able to travel to and attend office locations in Fife as required. Relocation assistance may be available for this vacancy and if successful for the post, should be discussed with the Hiring Manager.

If you meet the essential qualification criteria outlined below, we’d like to hear from you:

  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject.
  • Considerable post qualification experience in Building Standards & Public Safety with moderate experience in a higher level post.
  • Detailed knowledge of Building Standards & Public Safety legislation, regulations and service delivery.
  • Membership of appropriate professional body.

You will be required to participate in the out of hours service on a rotational basis, including weekends and public holiday periods, to respond to dangerous building incidents.
