As part of our Raising Attainment Strategy in Fife, we are looking to recruit one Principal Teacher (PT1) to support a specific cluster of schools to improve outcomes for children and young people with a clear focus on closing the poverty related attainment gap. We are looking for highly skilled professionals who have a wide range of experience, including leadership of change in a classroom and school context.

You will be required to:

  • Work alongside cluster school leadership teams to support the closing the gap agenda, as guided by the identified priorities within these schools.
  • Support classroom practitioners to embed specific aspects of pedagogy, using data effectively to monitor impact.
  • Promote and support assessment and moderation activities at both school and cluster level and report on progress and impact to all senior leaders within the cluster at individual school and cluster level.
  • Report on progress and impact at Cluster Meetings and Local Improvement Forums.
  • Share good practice in relation to closing the poverty related attainment gap, particularly around the areas of assessment and moderation.
  • Lead, develop and support professional learning activity in key areas of closing the gap at school and cluster levels.
  • Develop and lead network opportunities across the cluster in collaboration with the senior leaders as outlined in the cluster plan.
  • Collaborate with and report on progress to Education Support Officers, Quality Improvement Officers and Education Managers to inform strategic evaluations at local authority and national level.
  • Undertake additional professional learning activity to further develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of leadership of change, using data to measure impact and reporting on progress evaluatively and key aspects of high-quality learning, teaching and assessment linked to closing the gap.
  • Model high quality learning, teaching and assessment which demonstrates a sound knowledge and understanding of the key principles of Fife’s approaches to raising attainment through Conceptual Understanding in Numeracy, Workshop for Literacy and Nurturing Approaches.
  • Be line managed by one of the headteachers in your cluster and be responsible for implementing, measuring impact, data gathering and reporting on progress made within the cluster plan.

Qualifications, Registration and Skill Requirements

  • GTCS Registered
  • More than 5 years teaching experience
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality learning and teaching across all areas of the curriculum particularly in literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing and have experience in using assessment information effectively to improve outcomes for all learners.
  • Highly skilled in developing positive relationships with a wide range of colleagues and have worked collaboratively with others to bring about positive outcomes for learners.
  • Demonstrate evidence of how your professional learning has impacted positively on outcomes for learners.
  • Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
