About the Team

Our specialist Court of Protection team is looking for an experienced solicitor to join the growing team and deal with a busy and varied caseload. This role would be in London, working with Court of Protection colleagues and the wider PIMN department across our UK office network.

Fieldfisher's highly regarded Court of Protection team provides professional deputyship services to adults and children across the country. Our focus is on high value, complex damages management for clients who have sustained life-changing catastrophic injuries as a result of serious accidents and birth trauma. We also advise individuals with capacity who wish to set up personal injury trusts to shield damages from means-testing, including acting as professional trustee.

Role Purpose

We are seeking a qualified Solicitor to join our market-leading Court of Protection team in London.

• Business & Financial Management e.g. Demonstrate commercial awareness of own practice area and consistently meet hours/billing targets.
• Client Focus e.g. Build knowledge of clients and their sectors and attend and assist with organising client events and seminars.
• Working with People & Teams e.g. Build confidence in giving legal advice to clients, checking work with supervisor in advance.
• Business Development e.g. Shows awareness of how to identify potential new business opportunities and asks relevant and insightful questions in interactions with clients and colleagues.
• Technical Skills e.g. Interprets and solves problems using research and analysis.
• Knowledge & Innovation e.g. Expand knowledge in developments in law, regulation, and market practice. Embraces new ways of working, challenges established approaches where appropriate, and identifies innovative solutions that improve client outcomes, efficiency, and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Dealing with the routine management of deputyship and personal injury trusts with appropriate supervision and guidance from senior team members (with a focus on litigating and substantial settled cases).
• Liaising with clients, their families, case managers and other professionals and handling all matters with appropriate sensitivity.
• Working closely with the firm's Personal Injury and Medical Negligence solicitors on litigating cases.
• Assisting senior team members with complex cases.
• Drafting applications to the Court of Protection.
• Drafting annual Deputy Reports.
• Co-ordinating interim billing and the detailed assessment of our professional costs.
• Keeping accurate records and managing files efficiently.
• Dealing with relevant administrative tasks.
• Draft legal documents including.
• Conduct legal research.
• Assist with business development initiatives.
• Ensure accurate and efficient recording of time and effective diary management.
• Liaise with clients, counsel, barristers, and external advisors, and other stakeholders in a professional and empathetic manner.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor who thrives in a collaborative, market facing and high-performing environment. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills, deliver high-quality legal advice while building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues under appropriate supervision.

Experience and Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with 0-4PQE, in an established Court of Protection department.
• Strong client focus and excellent communication skills.
• Strong academics.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work under pressure and deal with competing priorities.
• Strong IT skills.
• Team player.
• Enthusiasm and proactivity.
