The Project Manager for Business Transformation will lead and coordinate change initiatives across Business Services to support the firm's operational, strategic, and cultural evolution. This role is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering transformational projects that improve efficiency, enhance client service delivery, modernise workflows, and enable the firm's long-term business strategy. The successful candidate will combine strong project management discipline with an understanding of how law firms operate, how Business Services functions interconnect, and how people, processes, and technology collectively drive transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Delivery: Lead end-to-end delivery of business transformation projects spanning process redesign, technology implementation, operating model improvements, and capability uplift. Develop robust project plans, RAID logs, timelines, and governance materials. Coordinate cross-functional workstreams across HR, IT, Finance, Risk, Legal Support and other Business Services teams. Manage project budgets, milestones, dependencies, and reporting structures. Ensure documentation and artefacts are completed to a high standard (e.g., workflows, business cases, UAT packs).
- Process & Workflow Improvement: Analyse current-state processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and user experience. Work closely with Business Analysts (where assigned) to design future-state processes and support business case development. Ensure project solutions align to firmwide standards, strategic goals, and best-practice legal operations principles.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication: Engage effectively with senior stakeholders across Business Services and practice groups. Facilitate workshops, interviews, focus groups, and playbacks to gather insight and validate decisions. Communicate progress clearly and regularly, ensuring risks and issues are understood and addressed. Support change management activities, including training coordination, communication materials, and readiness assessments.
- Technology & Data Enablement: Partner closely with IT and digital teams to manage implementations relating to workflow tools, automation, AI-enabled systems, and data improvements. Support testing cycles, UAT coordination, and post-go-live reviews. Ensure technology changes are embedded successfully and adopted by business users.
- Governance & Quality Assurance: Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with firmwide governance standards. Track KPIs, project success metrics, and post-implementation benefits. Conduct lessons-learned exercises to continuously refine transformation approaches.
Skills & Experience
- Essential: Proven experience delivering complex change or transformation projects within professional services, ideally within a law firm or similar partnership environment. Strong understanding of Business Services functions (such as HR, IT, Finance, Risk, Operations). Demonstrable experience in process improvement, technology-enablement projects, or operating model change. Experience coordinating cross-departmental initiatives with multiple stakeholder groups. Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, risk management, and reporting. Familiarity with project artefacts and tools (plans, RAID logs, workflows, business cases, UAT scripts). Ability to interpret and document business requirements and translate them into actionable plans. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations and build trusting relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain visibility across multiple workstreams with regular and predictable engagement. Competent in Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and workflow management systems.
- Desirable: Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, Agile) desirable but not essential. Degree or equivalent professional experience in business, technology, or a related discipline.
