Senior Civils Design Engineer
Department: Development
Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time
Location: UK – London
Reporting To: Chris Wickins
Compensation: GBP 45,000 – GBP 50,000 / year
Description
Your Mission
As a design engineer at Field, you will be involved in the design of our battery sites from the origination stage, through development and planning, and finally into construction. In origination, you will be involved with the initial identification of sites and creating the concept design that will enable our origination and legal team to negotiate a suitable plot of land. The project then moves into the development stage where the design engineer takes ownership of the site design and works with our internal experts in planning and construction as well as external consultants to create the battery site that we will build. You will create the 2D site plans, equipment drawings, and complete 3D modelling using both Civil 3D and REVIT, as well as leading the design health and safety review with all the key stakeholders in the project. Once a project has received planning consent, you will then work with our construction project managers to ensure the project is built in accordance with our design by reviewing and advising on the detailed design drawings from the contractor.
Within Field, you will get exposure to the latest battery technology, work in a team of experts in the UK and Europe, and contribute to the growth of the company as we contribute to the global climate goals. You will work in a fast-paced environment and have full autonomy over the projects you work on. The design team is growing, and you will be able to work with and train other members of the team and help build the design processes that we will use in the UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have a massive impact. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead designer on several projects at different stages of development, working with the internal team and consultants while using your engineering knowledge to design a site that meets all our requirements.
- Leading health and safety reviews/evaluations.
- Completion of a range of 2D drawings and plans including:
- Initial concept designs and detailed site plans;
- Single-line diagrams;
- Planning application drawings;
- Land plans;
- Pre-construction information e.g. combined utilities plan.
- Production of 3D site design models using both Civil 3D to calculate site levels and earthwork requirements and REVIT to create the sites in 3D for visualisations.
- Reviews of external designs and drawings ensuring all work meets our requirements and standards.
- Review of tender documents and data sheets to continually develop our in-house design knowledge and processes, including technical information, construction methods, and safety requirements.
- Support the implementation of Field’s internal data management system and continued process compliance.
- Training and sharing knowledge with other members of the design team.
