Regional Director of Education in Lancashire (Lancaster, Barrow, Blackpool)
Salary: up to 80,000 Per Annum + Car Allowance (negotiable)
Our colleges offer residential and day programmes at the main campus in Lancaster, with satellite services delivering day programmes in Barrow and Blackpool.
All our college sites currently serve up to 165 young people aged 18 to 25 with various physical and/or learning impairments, including ASD. Students receive specialist support from highly trained staff working alongside tutors.
We also provide independent provisions for early years (aged 4-5) and primary education (4+).
Role Overview
This role leads the performance of a geographical region, providing support, guidance, and direction to a team of directly line-managed Head Teachers and Principals, along with support functions, to achieve quality, customer satisfaction, financial, and growth targets. You will also coordinate support activities across the region.
Effective leadership at all levels shapes a culture prioritizing service users and the quality of care and education. Regular visits to schools and colleges within the region are expected, along with attendance at national meetings to ensure effective regional operation. In exceptional circumstances, you may serve as Head Teacher/Principal to mitigate regulatory risks.
This position is expected to commence from 1st September 2025.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor\’s degree (required)
- QTS (or QTLS), NPQH, and a relevant degree; qualification in SEND education is desirable
- Substantial leadership and management experience in a SEN school/college, including staff development
- Recent experience leading schools through Ofsted inspections and ISS requirements
- Experience in school self-evaluation and development planning
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve \’Good\’ or \’Outstanding\’ OFSTED/ESTYN ratings across all locations through internal audits
- Improve location and colleague satisfaction surveys annually, maintaining high response rates
- Lead and develop Head Teachers and Principals within your region
- Exceed financial and KPI/QPI targets, focusing on occupancy, cost control, and absence management
- Manage regional support teams and collaborate with divisional support
- Propose and oversee investments to enhance revenue and quality, ensuring good ROI
- Build partnerships with stakeholders such as Local Authorities, DfE, Ofsted, Estyn, Welsh Government, NHS, and CQC
- Promote best practice, collaboration, and resource sharing across teams and nationally
- Create strategic plans for regional growth and location re-purposing
- Implement service improvement plans where quality issues are identified
