Regional Director of Education in Lancashire (Lancaster, Barrow, Blackpool)
Salary: up to 80,000 Per Annum + Car Allowance (negotiable)
Our Colleges offer both residential and day programmes at the main campus in Lancaster, with satellite services delivering day programmes in Barrow and Blackpool.
All college sites currently serve up to 165 young people aged 18 to 25 with physical and/or learning impairments / ASD, supported by highly trained staff and tutors. We also have provisions for early years (aged 4-5) and primary (4+).
This role leads the performance of a geographical region, providing support, guidance, and direction to a team of directly line-managed Head Teachers and Principals, as well as support functions, to achieve quality, customer satisfaction, financial, and growth targets. You will also coordinate support functions not directly managed.
Effective leadership at all levels shapes a culture prioritizing service users and quality of care and education.
You will be expected to regularly visit schools/colleges within your region and attend national meetings to ensure effective operation and leadership. In exceptional circumstances, you may assume the role of Head Teacher/Principal for a location to mitigate regulatory risks.
This position is expected to commence from 1st September 2025.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor\’s degree (required)
- QTS or QTLS, a degree, and NPQH (qualification in SEND education desirable)
- Substantial leadership and management experience in a SEN school/college, including staff development
- Recent experience leading schools through Ofsted inspections and ISS requirements
- Experience in school self-evaluation and development planning
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee all locations to achieve GOOD or OUTSTANDING OFSTED/ESTYN ratings using internal audits
- Ensure continuous improvement in location and staff satisfaction surveys
- Lead and develop Head Teachers / Principals within your region
- Exceed financial and KPI/QPI targets, managing occupancy and costs effectively
- Manage regional support teams and collaborate with divisional support
- Propose and manage resources to drive revenue and quality improvements
- Build partnerships with key stakeholders such as Local Authorities, DfE, Ofsted, Estyn, NHS, CQC
- Promote a culture of best practice, collaboration, and resource sharing
- Develop strategic plans for regional growth and location re-purposing
- Implement service improvement plans for underperforming locations
