The Opportunity:
We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Team Leader to join a modern Energy from Waste power generation facility in the Liverpool area. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient day-to-day operation of the plant while leading and supporting the shift operations team. This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced operational environment where safety, reliability and performance are key priorities. This opportunity would suit candidates with a strong background in power generation, thermal plant operations, EfW, CHP, biomass, utilities or other heavy process industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the shift operations team during day-to-day plant operations
- Ensure high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance
- Maximise plant availability, efficiency and reliability
- Monitor plant performance and respond proactively to operational issues
- Support routine maintenance activities, fault finding and defect resolution
- Operate within site safety rules and permit systems
- Produce accurate shift logs, defect reports and operational documentation
- Support outage planning, scheduling and coordination activities
- Interface with contractors and external service providers where required
- Act as part of the emergency response structure during site incidents
- Maintain high housekeeping and operational standards across the site
- Promote a positive safety culture and strong team environment
Qualifications & Knowledge:
- HND or equivalent in an Engineering discipline preferred
- Strong understanding of thermal power plant operations or heavy industrial processes
- Knowledge of permit to work systems, HV/LV systems and operational safety procedures
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification advantageous
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within power generation or process plant operations
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
- Experience operating from a control room environment desirable
- Background within EfW, biomass, CHP, CCGT, utilities, petrochemical or similar sectors preferred
