A bit about Field
Field is an international developer, owner, operator, of renewable infrastructure. Our Founder and CEO is a successful entrepreneur who previously coâfounded a green energy supplier. We have robust pipelines of BESS projects across the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany - and strong financial backing. Our most recent fundraise was a ÂŁ200 million investment from DIF Capital Partners (now CVC DIF). This will support our mission to grow internationally, and ultimately to build and develop a robust global BESS portfolio. We are an eclectic team with varied backgrounds. Our team has experience scaling billion dollar tech startâups and building energy companies, as well as deep specialisms in energy markets. You will learn from and work with a bunch of fun, curious, and entrepreneurial people who really want to make an impact. Together, we will show that batteries are a totally viable part of our energy infrastructure - now, not in some distant future. We have ambitious plans to become the defining new clean energy player in Europe over the next few years, gradually expanding beyond batteries into new asset types.
Key Responsibilities
Your Mission
As Lead BESS engineer youâll be responsible for leading the design and selection of battery systems that will be built across Fieldâs portfolio of multiâGWh duration energy storage projects in the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany. This will require you to keep abreast of technological developments in battery cell design and development and implications for battery container design and power conversion equipment. It will also involve some travel to manufacturing sites and industry conferences to witness tests, engage at a deeper level on specific project issues and maintain relationships with technical and commercial counterparts. This role will encompass the full battery lifecycle and mean you will also be working closely with the development, construction and operations teams to support their roles in site outline design, noise assessments, interface management with BOP contractors as well as supporting ongoing asset management to keep our batteries running at peak performance.
What youâll be doing
This is a broad and varied role that would suit someone with an engineering (preferably electrical) or physical science background who is curious, has an entrepreneurial mindset and wants to work with rapidly evolving technology. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing conceptual designs for new battery storage systems; shortâduration, longâduration and those with more advanced capabilities such as inertia, shortâcircuit and blackstart services.
- Supporting the tender evaluations for new battery systems.
- Assisting the construction team with monitoring the quality of commissioning of new battery sites, including visiting of BESS suppliers for Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Leading engagement with BESS suppliers to anticipate new battery designs that will affect how we plan and develop new sites.
- Supporting the legal and contractual teams with technical expertise to understand the key contractual risks and avoid contractual disputes.
- Developing our inâhouse approach to longâterm battery management to minimise operational risks and optimise battery health.
