We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design for our Big transmission connected BESS projects. Want to work on projects that actually shape the future of energy in the UK? This could be your next move. Join Fidra Energy – building Europe’s largest battery storage portfolio.
Fidra Energy, backed by EIG and the UK National Wealth Fund, is on an ambitious journey to deliver 10GW of battery storage projects across the UK and Europe by 2030. With landmark projects like Thorpe Marsh (1.4GW) – Europe’s largest BESS development – already underway, this is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of the energy transition.
This is a front-end development role where electrical engineering meets commercial strategy. You’ll play a key role in taking grid-scale battery projects from early site identification through to grid connection, planning, and pre-construction—making sure designs are robust, optimised, and fully aligned with UK network requirements.
The Role
- Shape early-stage projects (feasibility, capacity, layouts) from an electrical perspective
- Lead and support grid connection applications and negotiations with DNOs and National Grid ESO
- Interpret and challenge connection offers, technical schedules, and compliance requirements
- Develop high-level electrical concepts (SLDs, protection, earthing)
- Highlight risks, constraints, and opportunities before they become problems
- Support planning, land, and investment decisions with strong technical insight
- Define technical scope and work closely with consultants, EPCs & OEMs
- Review designs and studies to ensure alignment with commercial objectives
- Play a key role in tenders, supplier selection, and technical due diligence
About You
- We’re looking for an experienced engineer who’s technically sharp, commercially aware, and comfortable operating at pace:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
- Experience in large transmission connected UK power, renewables, or energy infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of LV, MV, HV systems and transmission level grid connection processes (G99/G100)
- Have understanding of grid code compliance, commissioning, and/or connections experience
- Experience in balancing engineering judgement with commercial outcomes
- Confident reviewing third-party designs and challenging where needed
- Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience with BESS or co-located renewable projects
- Familiarity with DNO processes and connection strategy optimisation
- Exposure to planning, construction, or financial close
- Chartership (or working towards it)
You’ll be working at the heart of the UK’s energy transition—on complex, high-impact projects that directly enable a cleaner, more flexible power system. Expect real ownership, fast-paced delivery, and the chance to shape projects from day one.
Ready to power the energy transition? Apply now to join Fidra Energy and help deliver the next wave of large-scale battery storage projects.
